Return and Refund Policy
Effective Date: July 18, 2022
Last Updated: July 18, 2026
Thank you so much for shopping with Retro Character Collectibles.
Our highest priority is making sure you are happy with your experience. If you feel frustrated, disappointed, or unsure about an item you received, please email us at licensedfinds@gmail.com before starting a return. We are easy to talk to, willing to listen, and happy to consider practical solutions that may resolve the issue without putting you through unnecessary shipping hoops.
Most RCC items are more than 20 years old. Many are discontinued, one of a kind, factory sealed, or impossible to replace in the same condition. Even careful handling can change older packaging, factory tape, seals, corners, plastic windows, tags, inserts, and display surfaces.
We did not create these rules to make legitimate returns difficult. These safeguards became necessary after repeated misuse of returns, damaged merchandise, item substitutions, opened collectibles, missing components, and false claims. They allow us to protect honest buyers, preserve the documented condition of our inventory, and continue offering older collectibles that cannot simply be reordered from a warehouse.
Please contact us before sending anything back. Our goal is to solve the problem fairly while protecting both the customer and the collectible.
1. Return Request Window
You may request a return review within 30 calendar days after confirmed delivery.
To begin a return review, email:
Please include:
-
Your full name
-
Order number
-
Product name
-
Reason for the return
-
Clear photographs showing the item’s current condition
-
Photographs of any damage, discrepancy, factory seal, packaging, tag, corner, tape, or other issue related to the request
For boxed or packaged items, we may request photographs from multiple angles, including the front, back, sides, top, bottom, corners, factory tape, seals, tags, inserts, and packaging.
We may request additional photographs when reasonably necessary to verify condition, identify the product, investigate shipping damage, or process a carrier or insurance claim.
Submitting a return request does not automatically approve the return. We will review the information and provide written authorization and return instructions when the return is eligible.
2. Return Authorization
All returns require written authorization from RCC before shipment.
Once approved, we will provide:
-
Return instructions
-
The correct return address
-
Any applicable return authorization information
-
The deadline for mailing the return
-
An estimate of any return shipping or restocking deductions
An approved return must generally be given to the carrier within 7 calendar days after authorization, unless we approve a different deadline in writing.
Do not send a return to the address printed on the original shipping label unless our return instructions specifically direct you to use that address.
Packages mailed without authorization, sent to the wrong address, mailed after the authorization expires, or sent without sufficient identifying information may be refused, delayed, or returned to the sender, subject to applicable law.
3. Eligible Returns
To qualify for a discretionary return, an item must be:
-
The same item originally shipped by RCC
-
In materially the same documented condition in which it was received
-
Unused, unworn, uninstalled, unaltered, and undamaged
-
Returned with all original parts, packaging, tags, accessories, inserts, manuals, and included items
-
Packed securely to prevent damage during return shipping
-
Returned according to the written instructions provided by RCC
The customer may inspect an unsealed item only to the extent reasonably necessary to confirm the item received.
Handling, wearing, installing, operating, washing, cleaning, altering, repairing, displaying, or using an item beyond what is reasonably necessary to inspect it may affect return eligibility.
4. Preserving Collector Condition
The condition of an older collectible can change through opening, handling, repacking, display, photography, storage, or return shipping.
Packaging condition may represent a substantial part of the item’s collector value.
An item must be returned in materially the same cataloged condition in which it was delivered.
Factory Sealed Items
An item sold as factory sealed, unopened, new in package, sealed in a blister pack, enclosed in protective factory wrapping, or contained in a graded or protective case must remain sealed and untampered with.
Evidence of opening or tampering may include:
-
Cut, lifted, peeled, loosened, or replaced factory tape
-
Broken seals
-
Opened blister packaging
-
Removed or disturbed factory wrapping
-
Opened graded or protective cases
-
Missing inserts, ties, tags, or packaging components
-
Evidence that the product was removed from its packaging
-
New creases, dents, scratches, tears, fingerprints, or handling wear
A sealed collectible that has been opened is not eligible for a discretionary return.
Unsealed Items
Unsealed items may be inspected only to the extent reasonably necessary to confirm the item received.
Items that have been worn, displayed, installed, operated, washed, cleaned, repaired, altered, or handled in a manner that changes their documented condition may be ineligible for return.
Ordinary personal photographs or social media posts do not automatically make an item used. The determining factor is whether the item was opened, handled, altered, damaged, displayed, or changed from its documented condition.
Restrictions in this section do not eliminate remedies required by law for an incorrect, materially misdescribed, counterfeit, or transit damaged item.
5. Vintage Characteristics and Condition
Vintage and older merchandise may show age related or storage related characteristics, including:
-
Light shelf wear
-
Packaging wear
-
Surface marks
-
Fading
-
Creases
-
Tarnish
-
Adhesive aging
-
Plastic discoloration
-
Factory tape variations
-
Minor manufacturing inconsistencies
-
Light scratches
-
Tag wear
-
Minor corner wear
These characteristics do not automatically make an item defective.
Product photographs and written condition notes form part of the product description. Please review the entire listing before purchasing.
A return will not ordinarily be approved solely because of a characteristic that was clearly photographed or disclosed before purchase.
Condition terms such as excellent, very good, good, new with tags, new without tags, unused old stock, or light shelf wear are good faith assessments based on visible inspection. They are not guarantees that an older item is flawless.
6. Damaged, Incorrect, or Materially Misdescribed Items
Contact us promptly if:
-
The wrong item was delivered.
-
The item arrived damaged.
-
A listed component is missing.
-
The item materially differs from the listing.
-
The condition materially differs from the photographs or written description.
Please report visible shipping damage within 48 hours after delivery whenever reasonably possible. Prompt reporting helps preserve carrier and insurance evidence.
Failure to report within 48 hours does not automatically eliminate rights that cannot legally be waived. Delayed reporting may make carrier investigation or verification more difficult.
Please include photographs of:
-
The collectible
-
The damaged or disputed area
-
The exterior shipping box
-
The shipping label
-
Interior packaging
-
Protective materials
-
Any damage to the product’s original packaging
Keep the item, shipping carton, labels, and all packing materials until we provide written instructions. Carriers or insurers may require them for inspection.
Do not repair, alter, clean, discard, operate, or continue using a damaged item before the review is completed.
Approved claims involving an incorrect, materially misdescribed, or transit damaged item will not be subject to a restocking fee.
When RCC is responsible for the return, we will provide or reimburse reasonable return shipping as appropriate and as required by applicable law.
7. Unboxing Documentation
We recommend recording a brief, continuous video while opening fragile, valuable, factory sealed, or collectible shipments.
An unboxing video may help document:
-
The sealed shipping box
-
The condition of the package when delivered
-
The protective packing materials
-
The item’s condition when first removed
-
Missing components
-
Transit damage
An unboxing video is useful supporting evidence, but it is not an automatic requirement for every legitimate claim and does not guarantee the outcome of a carrier, insurer, payment provider, or return review.
8. Return Shipping
For discretionary returns, including buyer’s remorse, preference changes, duplicate purchases, or ordering the wrong item, the customer is responsible for return shipping.
Approved returns must use:
-
A trackable carrier service
-
Adequate protective packaging
-
Insurance sufficient to cover the item’s purchase value when required in the authorization
-
Signature confirmation when required in the authorization
The customer remains responsible for the return package until it is delivered to the authorized return address.
RCC is not responsible for a return that is lost, misdirected, insufficiently packed, or damaged during return shipping when the customer selected or arranged the shipping service, except where applicable law provides otherwise.
Do not place a shipping label directly on collectible packaging, manufacturer packaging, graded cases, or the original product box.
The product must be placed inside a separate shipping carton with proper protective materials.
9. Restocking Fee and Loss of Collector Condition
Approved discretionary returns are subject to a 25% restocking fee.
This fee reflects the unusual risks and costs associated with receiving an older collectible back into inventory, including:
-
Return administration
-
Condition inspection and verification
-
Comparison with pre shipment records
-
Rephotographing and relisting
-
Repackaging and storage
-
Handling of fragile or aging packaging
-
Reduced marketability after additional shipment and handling
-
Potential depreciation caused by minor changes to packaging or collector condition
-
Payment processing and transaction costs not returned to RCC
-
The possibility that the item can no longer be represented or sold in its original documented condition
The restocking fee applies to approved returns involving buyer’s remorse, preference changes, duplicate purchases, ordering the wrong item, or another reason not caused by an RCC error.
The restocking fee does not apply when:
-
RCC shipped the wrong item.
-
The item was materially misdescribed.
-
The item arrived damaged through no fault of the customer.
-
The item had an undisclosed material defect.
-
Applicable law prohibits the fee.
The 25% restocking fee does not guarantee that every returned item will be accepted.
A product that has been opened, altered, damaged, incompletely returned, substituted, or changed from its documented collector condition may be ineligible for a refund.
When permitted by law, any deduction for new damage, missing components, broken seals, missing packaging, or measurable loss of value may be separate from the restocking fee and will be explained during the return review.
10. Return Inspection and Documentation
RCC documents product condition, identifying marks, packaging details, unique wear patterns, model information, and included components before shipment when appropriate.
Returned packages may be opened and inspected under continuous video recording in our return inspection area.
The inspection may compare the returned product with:
-
Original listing photographs
-
Pre shipment photographs
-
Packaging records
-
Identifying marks
-
Serial, model, or manufacturing information
-
Unique wear characteristics
-
Package weight
-
Customer submitted return photographs
-
Included parts and accessories
-
Factory tape, seals, tags, inserts, and packaging
The returned item must materially match the product originally shipped by RCC.
These records may be retained for return administration, fraud prevention, carrier claims, insurance claims, payment disputes, and legal compliance in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
11. Return Substitution and Missing Components
The following are prohibited:
-
Returning a different item
-
Returning a replacement or substitute component
-
Returning an empty package
-
Removing accessories or original components
-
Substituting damaged packaging
-
Returning a counterfeit or reproduction in place of the original
-
Altering identifying marks
-
Intentionally causing damage before return
-
Returning an item with broken seals or altered packaging not present at delivery
A return showing material evidence of substitution, alteration, missing components, customer caused damage, or other return fraud may be denied where permitted by law.
We may preserve and submit relevant records to Shopify, payment providers, carriers, insurers, financial institutions, or law enforcement authorities when reasonably necessary.
12. Refund Processing
Refunds are not issued while a return is in transit.
After delivery, we generally require up to 3 business days to inspect and document the return.
Once a return is inspected and accepted, the approved refund will be submitted to the original payment method within 7 business days. or to store credit within 1 business days.
The refund may include deductions disclosed and permitted under this policy, including:
-
The 25% restocking fee
-
Customer responsible return shipping
-
Missing components
-
New damage
-
Broken seals
-
Missing packaging
-
Loss of condition caused after delivery
-
Other authorized deductions permitted by law
After RCC submits the refund, the customer’s bank, card issuer, or payment provider controls how long it takes for the credit to appear.
Original outbound shipping charges are not refundable for discretionary returns unless required by law or expressly approved in writing.
13. Exchanges
Due to the one of a kind and limited nature of much of our inventory, direct exchanges are generally unavailable.
When an approved return is completed, the customer may place a separate order for another available product.
We cannot reserve another item while a return is in transit or under review unless we agree to do so in writing.
14. Final Sale and Nonreturnable Items
The following products are not eligible for discretionary return when clearly identified before purchase:
-
Items marked Final Sale
-
Clearance items specifically marked Final Sale
-
Mystery or surprise boxes
-
Personalized or customized products
-
Digital products after delivery
-
Gift cards
-
Items opened, used, worn, installed, altered, washed, cleaned, repaired, displayed, or damaged after delivery
-
Factory sealed products that have been opened
-
Products missing original components, tags, packaging, inserts, or accessories
-
Items sold explicitly for parts, repair, restoration, or as is condition
A reduced price or sale price alone does not make an item final sale. The product must be clearly identified as Final Sale before purchase.
Final sale restrictions do not eliminate remedies required by law for products that are materially misdescribed, incorrect, counterfeit, damaged before delivery, or otherwise not delivered as agreed.
15. Payment Disputes and Chargebacks
We encourage customers to contact us first so we can review and resolve legitimate order concerns.
Nothing in this policy prevents a customer from exercising lawful billing dispute or chargeback rights.
When a payment dispute is opened, the payment provider may take control of the disputed funds. To prevent duplicate refunds, RCC may pause a parallel internal return or refund review while the financial institution or payment provider investigates the transaction.
We may submit relevant evidence, including:
-
Order and checkout records
-
Product descriptions
-
Product photographs
-
Customer communications
-
Pre shipment records
-
Packing documentation
-
Tracking information
-
Delivery confirmation
-
Signature records
-
Return photographs
-
Inspection video
-
Refund records
A knowingly false statement, fabricated damage claim, item substitution, or intentional attempt to retain both the merchandise and the purchase funds may constitute fraud.
16. Refused and Unclaimed Deliveries
Refusing a package, failing to collect it, or allowing it to be returned by the carrier does not automatically qualify the order for a full refund.
When an undamaged package is returned to RCC because it was refused, unclaimed, undeliverable due to customer provided information, or abandoned at a pickup location, the refund may be reduced by:
-
Original shipping charges
-
Return carrier charges
-
The applicable restocking fee
-
Other direct costs permitted by law
Packages returned because of an RCC addressing error will be handled without those deductions.
17. International Returns
Customers outside the United States are responsible for return postage, insurance, customs documentation, duties, brokerage charges, and other return costs for discretionary returns.
RCC cannot refund duties, taxes, or fees collected directly by a government, customs authority, carrier, or third party.
Customers should mark authorized return shipments accurately as returned merchandise where permitted. RCC cannot direct a customer to make a false customs declaration.
Mandatory consumer rights in the customer’s jurisdiction remain applicable when they cannot legally be waived.
18. Policy Applicable to Your Purchase
The Return and Refund Policy in effect when your order is placed governs that purchase unless:
-
Applicable law requires otherwise; or
-
We agree in writing to apply a later policy provision that is more favorable to you.
We may update this policy for future orders by posting a revised version and effective date on the website.
19. Contact Information

Please include your order number in all return related correspondence.
We are collectors too. We understand that honest mistakes, shipping problems, and unexpected concerns can happen. We will review each request fairly, communicate clearly, and make every reasonable effort to resolve legitimate issues without turning the process into a bureaucratic endurance test.
These safeguards exist because older collectibles cannot always survive repeated handling, opening, repacking, and shipping without losing condition or value. Protecting that condition allows us to keep sourcing, preserving, and offering items that may never be available again in the same condition.
